To effectively implement and deliver the reactive and planned workload in relation to the relevant Environmental Health service areas. To provide professional support and advice, in line with appropriate competencies, to local stakeholders and other directorate service areas. To protect and improve the health, safety and well-being of consumers, residents and workers within the Borough at work, at home and at leisure.

Example of duties

To contribute delivery of relevant objectives outlined in the Environmental Health Service Plan with a view to improving the health, safety and well-being of consumers, residents and workers within the Borough at work, at home and at leisure.

To provide professional support and advice, in line with appropriate competencies, to local stakeholders and other directorate service areas.

To participate in key environmental health projects in line with central governments drive towards better regulation.

To provide prompt and courteous responses to public complaints and other enquiries and ensure all relevant information is recorded, via the service computer database system, to aid performance management monitoring.

Essential criteria for the role

•Must have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health. Applicants should be registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB).
•Must possess Certificate of Competency in order to perform HHSRS assessments. Candidates should have recent experience and a detailed understanding in the community aspects of environmental health and principles of private sector housing. This should include HMOs, tenanted housing, mobile homes, licensing, LSIs and public health with an ability to take appropriate enforcement action accordingly
•Must have experience in preparing legal notices and undertaking works in default to ensure legal compliance.
•Must be able to demonstrate an ability to undertake complex specialist/ technical work and make independent decisions without supervision on a regular basis.
•Must be able to demonstrate a positive ‘Can-Do’ and professional attitude to work whilst also being approachable and adaptable.
•Must be able to demonstrate experience in preparing clear and concise reports including reports for Committees and/or portfolio holders.
•Must be able to demonstrate an ability to organise and prioritise own workload to effectively manage several projects and tasks.
•Must be able meet physical requirements of the role (Occasional need to carry portable items of equipment short distances) and travel efficiently around the District in order to carry out duties.
•Must be able to work unsociable hours as and when work demands require.
