JOB PURPOSE:

To be responsible for the management and development of Bedford’s Housing Register, Choice based Lettings and Allocation of Housing ensuring it remains ‘fit for purpose’, and reflects up to date guidance and case law in line with the overall aims and objectives of the Housing Service.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

•Manage the Housing Allocation Service to ensure effective operation of application, choice based lettings and allocation processes in line with the Council’s delivery of an overall first class Rehousing Options & Homelessness Prevention and Relief Service.

The ideal candidate

•Detailed understanding of relevant Housing Legislation and experience of working within a Housing Allocation Service, together with an ability to maintain up to date knowledge of good practice, case-law and innovation.

•Experience in a performance driven environment to meet targets and a proven track record in managing and motivating a team to improve performance.

•Excellent oral communication skills and experience in dealing with sensitive or aggressive customers to resolve difficult situations.

•Excellent written communication skills in order to be able to produce grammatically correct letters of a complex nature, reports, and customer information.

•Knowledge of rehousing opportunities through the Social and Private Sectors.

•Excellent IT skills and ability to professionally lead on delivery of system requirements in order to ensure an efficient and effective service delivery.

•Must have a creative and innovative problem solving ability, particularly in being able to interpret and apply relevant legislation and undertake complex pieces of work.

•Must be able to able to engage effectively with partners and stakeholders to secure better service outcomes for customers, operating with sensitivity in a political environment.

•Must be an innovative thinker who is motivated and organised with a professional approach, able to effectively manage time, prioritise and delegate.

•Must have a commitment to a housing options approach; provide high standards of customer care; a customer focussed approach and a commitment to respecting and valuing equality and diversity.

Working 37 Hours per week
