Street Scene Operative

We are looking for a motivated and reliable individual to join our Street Scene team as a Street Scene OR Mechanical Plant Operative.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you will be responsible for operating vehicles and plant machinery, maintaining public spaces, and helping deliver high-quality environmental services across the borough.

You’ll play a key role in keeping streets, parks, and open spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a range of vehicles and plant equipment (including sweepers and service vehicles)
  • Carry out street cleansing and maintenance of public spaces
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with health & safety regulations
  • Report vehicle defects, incidents, and environmental issues (e.g. fly-tipping, graffiti, damage)

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Understands health & safety practices and can follow procedures

We are seeking a reliable a proactive Maintenance Operative to support the smooth running, safety, and upkeep of our site. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys practical work, problem‑solving, and maintaining high standards across a busy operational environment. You will play a key part in ensuring the site remains clean, functional, and safe for all staff and visitors.

 

  • Full UK Driving Licence – is essential for operating site vehicles and moving between areas. Ability to drive manual and automatic cars, including vans.
  • Counterbalance Forklift Licence – is essential for handling materials and supporting site operations. (need a valid licence) cannot be in house licence.
  • Experience or and interest in general maintenance, facilities work, or groundskeeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out a wide range of ad hoc maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, basic fixes, and general upkeep across the site.
